I was invited back to PETRONAS to speak at its Board Excellence Programme in Bangi on 22 September 2026.
Nearly thirty years ago I was legal counsel at PETRONAS Carigali and PETRONAS Holding, until I left in 2001. The six years I spent in the group shaped how I work: a bias toward delivery, a sense of responsibility, and the group's own values of loyalty and integrity. So being invited back was a personal moment rather than just another engagement.
I spoke about the practicalities of how boards move from oversight to action — translating board-level expectation into governance mechanisms and operating models that hold. The session was Enabling Responsible AI at Scale: From Oversight to Action. I also caught up with several of the mentors and colleagues I worked with then, some of whom have risen a long way in the group since.
It was the personal highlight of my year.
