Over the last two months, we have been sharing the Pelan Tindakan AI Kebangsaan 2026-2030 in workshops, conferences and seminars across the country. The interest has been overwhelming, so I wanted to give an overview of what the plan contains.

3 RMK-13 aspirations

By 2030, Malaysia aims to be a Regional Digital Technology Hub, a producer of globally competitive Made by Malaysia AI, and an AI Nation that is inclusive and sustainable.

4 North Star goals

To know whether we are getting there, the plan sets four goals for 2030:

  • up to 1.2 percentage points of GDP growth from AI
  • up to 300,000 new jobs from AI
  • a place in the top 10 of the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index
  • a place in the top 10 of the Stanford HAI Index

14 sectoral initiatives

Goals are only met where AI is actually used, so the plan puts the work into 14 sectors. Government initiates seven, including healthcare, education, public services and AI cities. Three additional initiatives come from public and private sector partnerships, manufacturing, plantation and MSMEs. Industry champions lead the last four, in power, oil and gas, financial services and telecommunications.

14 enablers

None of that holds up without a foundation: talent, from AI-fluent students to an AI-competent civil service; innovation, through the Research Foundry and AI Growth Zones; governance, through sectoral AI governance and an AI Trust Function; and the data and compute everything runs on.

It is a whole-of-nation plan, and we all have a role to play.
