Post was done in Adobe Lightroom 2

I was commissioned to take photos of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) during their camp in August. I am not able to show all the pictures yet as we are planning a big photo exhibition at the end of the year in collaboration with the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP). I did however take some impromptu portraits of some of the young musicians in my make shift street studio which basically consist of a table, a stool and a BIG light source (i.e. the sun) which was streaming in beautifully into the hall.

After a longgggg break from taking portraits (about 2 months which is a lifetime to me. The images I posted in this period were all re-processed from older shoots) I picked up my camera and decided to go for broke. This image was taken as a result of that. One light (580 EX II) with …

Portraits – BK in the studio

Sometimes its good to do something different. I don’t generally like to take studio type pictures and portraits. Partly because its such a hassle and a pain to set the lights, arrange stuff, wait for the make up and so on. Having said that though, I love the idea of being able to switch from …

Portrait – Girl In Kebaya

I was asked to take portraits at an event recently. 45 Portraits and I had to do it in 2 hours. Man. What a rush. I spent the whole day experimenting on lights to see which is th emost versatile and easy to set up. I literally had about 3 minutes for each portrait so …

Another in the series of Jaclyn’s Portraits. I like getting head shots but I find that I don’t like the distortion by the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS even at 200mm. I think my next purchase will be the 300mm f/4 L IS or the 400mm f/5.6 L and shoot the head shots from far. You …

Portrait – Jana

I took this portrait of Jana at the same time as Jaclyn’s. This one was actually a test shot while I was setting up the lights. But this is the one I like of Jana most. Again, I’m experimenting with Photoshop here. Check out Jana’s Dad, Johnny, here….. Canon 1D Mark III EF 85mm f/1.2 …

I did another studio session today. My light are still not working properly. When I put my gridded beauty dish on the main light, it doesn’t seem to trigger the fill and background light. I’m thinking of getting rid of it.Anyway, this is my friend Jaclyn Bain who wanted me to take some pictures of …
