Starting Over

Have you ever felt like you were lost in this world? Have you ever wanted to forget everything and start over?
Looking Good But Going Nowhere
I’ve certainly felt that way a lot in the past. I worked hard, but I felt that I wasn’t getting anywhere worthwhile. A key reason that I felt this way was that I didn’t spend enough time thinking about what I wanted in life. After all, would you set out on a major journey with no real idea of your destination? Probably not! I noticed that when I don’t have a real destination, I end up going round and round in circles and I often find myself back to where I started and with nothing to show for it.
I was fed up with the state of my life,  my job, my family and the state of my finances. My health was not doing too good either and I was even admitted to the hospital for a suspected heart attack, at age 36.
Enough Is Enough
One day I said enough is enough and I set out to make changes. I thought it would be easy until I started making the changes. Nothing worked and everything was the same. In fact some areas of my life got progressively worse.
It wasn’t until I started to read up, attend seminars and talk to successful people that I began to understand what I was doing wrong. It was only then that it dawned on me that it is possible to start over.
It’s Easy To Blame
You see I was blaming a lot of people for the state of my life. I blamed my family members, I blamed my bosses, I blamed my friends. I even blamed life for being so cruel. It wasn’t until I made the conscious decision to never blame anyone in my life again that things started to change. There’s a simple word to describe that decision. It’s called taking responsibility. And when I did that, my life changed.
The First Step
If you want to start changing things in your life, first take responsibility for your life.
Another reason why I was not able to get what I wanted was because I didn’t know what I wanted in the first place and even if I had some idea of what I wanted, it was so vague and unclear. And when things are vague and unclear, we are unable to do what is probably one of the greatest hallmarks of successful people, focus.
The Second Step
The other problem I experienced was that I was simply doing to many things at the same time. Have you ever experienced the time when you seem to be thinking, doing and worrying about a lot of things? And when that happens, don’t you find yourself worrying so much about it, you end up not doing much and achieving very little?
This shouldn’t be an exercise in multi tasking. When you start to do too many things at one time you begin to lose focus and that’s when things can start to break down.
If you want to start changing things in your life, first take responsibility for your life.
If you want to start changing things in your life, make sure you focus on a few and get them done instead of focusing on the many and get nothing done.
The Third Step
The final reason why I wasn’t getting what I want is that I didn’t take action. Taking action is one of the most basic principles of success. If you don’t take action, you’re not going to get what you want. It was really that simple. I had a lot of ideas and a lot of things I wanted to do but I never took any action on them. I see other people get what they want and the difference is that they took action. I didn’t.
If you want to start changing things in your life, first take responsibility for your life.
If you want to start changing things in your life, make sure you focus on a few and get them done instead of focussing on the many and get nothing done.
If you want to start changing things in your life, make sure you take action and not wait for it to happen.
It’s Just The Beginning
Does this mean all will be all right when you take these three steps? By no means does this mean that everything will be all right and there are other things that needs to be done. I would say this though. Taking these three steps means that you are starting a new journey and maybe even an adventure.
If I didn’t take these first three steps, I would never have changed and things could have gotten much worse. If you’re looking to start over and get a fresh start, these three steps could get you on your way.
What about you? What strategies has helped you to start over? What kind of challenged do you face when you try to start over?
