I registered for the Larian Bomba 2011 10km run which is heldon 8 May 2011 in conjunction with the International Firefighters Day.
This will be 4th running event for the year (actually for my entire life so far) and at 10km will be the longest. Cut off time for this 10km is 90 minutes. It’s a bit daunting for me as I can manage 100 minutes for the 10km (last night’s 10km was 100 mins).
There are 3 danger zones; the first one coming in at km 1 which is a 750m uphill portion, the second one is at km 5 with a similar uphill portion whilst the third is at km 8.5 which is a short 100m flyover which I have to cross. The rest of the route is quite flat (and very nice).
So the strategy is to run slowly in the first hill, small steps and slow speed. Once I get over that I can zoom off in the downhill and flat portion all the way to the 2nd hill where I’ll slow down again with small steps. I should be smooth sailing till the last hill, again slow down and push for the final km.
This will be the medal times for me:
80 mins and below- Gold
80 mins – 90 mins – Silver
Finishing – Bronze
So this week, I will push for slow long runs to get myself used to running for 90 minutes.
Let’s see what happens during the race.
