Putu piring at the night market

A pasar malam (night markets) is a kind of bazaar food, clothes and ornaments usually held once a week at any location. The the traders there would often rotate from pasar malam sites all over the particular locality.

Putu bambu is a Malaysian delicacy made of rice flour and coconut shreds. It can often be found at most pasar malam and is a favourite of mine. The sweet coconut shred is wrapped with the rice flour and place in short bamboo stalks. They are then ‘cooked’ in steam for a few minutes. Once ready, the putu bambu is pushed out, ready to be eaten.

If you come to Malaysia, you have got to experience a pasar malam and you have to try this.

Just ask anyone. There could be one round the corner tonight…..
