RUN

Now that the high of sunday’s race (the Larian Hari Keputeraan Sultan Azlan Shah 2011 7km run) is over, it’s back to training. Today is meant to be an easy day which means no intense workouts. I ran 7km today at an average of 69% MHR. I was running each lap at about 3:30 (my usual is between 2:30 and 3:00). I haven’t had a workout at this pace for a long time. It used to be the foundation of my running, slow and steady run. For the last 4 weeks I’ve been focussing on intervals and hills to develop speed and power. I think part of the reason for me not being able to go under 60 minutes is because I haven’t been running at this slow pace for awhile. I remember writing a post called Training Tip – Train slower to run faster and endure longer. This is something I neglected in the last 4 weeks and I think I paid for it n sunday’s race.

RACE REPORT
LARIAN HARI KEPUTERAAN SULTAN AZLAN SHAH 2011 7KM

I have been looking forward to this race for awhile now as it’s my first ‘away race’. This race is held in honour of and to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty The Sultan Of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah. So I had high hopes for this running event and it did not disappoint.

TRAVEL

Kuala Kangsar is about 3 hours away (by car) from KL. We too a drive yesterday and arrived about 5 PM. After settling the accommodation matters, we took a drive to survey the route (see here for my Pre Race Prep). After dinner and a bit of a drive, it was time to go to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a great day.

MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS

Yesterday I wrote about the idea of quitting after an extremely bad swimming session. I’ve had some time to think about it and have had some revelations. I am training for my first triathlon which will be held on the 23 July 2011, a little over 60 days from today.

For all intent and purposes I have come very far indeed since I made the decision to embark on this journey nearly 6 months ago.

I’ve learnt to run and have turned myself from a couch potato )who couldn’t run for even a few hundred metres) into someone who runs a minimum of 5 km on a slow day and 10km on an average day. I’ve even run the equivalent of a half marathon (albeit quite slowly).

Although I already knew how to ride a bicycle, I have cycled for nearly 20 years and now I do workouts for an hour on the bike 3 times a week.

Daily Log 19 May 2011 – When the going gets tough, does the tough get going or does the tough just quit?

DAILY LOG 19 MAY 2011 MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS Today for the first time since I started this journey I am contemplating giving this whole thing up. Triathlons consists of the 3 disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. I am not a natural swimmer, I am not a natural cyclist and I am not a …

MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS

I’ve been busy preparing for a talk I’m going to give tomorrow called ‘My Journey from Cameraman to Photographer’. Photography is my other passion and it’s something deeply personal to me. I keep another blog called Reza Ali The Right Eye (or I used to keep it, now it’s been left idle for awhile). To prepare for the talk I went through a lof of my pictures dating back to 2006. It sure brought back a lot of memories. I have stopped taking pictures for about 18 months now and now I feel the urge to get creative again. I’m going to pick up my camera and go walkabout I think.

Today was a hard day which consisted of 3 workouts; Core Workout, Bike Interval and Run Intervals

MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS

There are 65 days to go to the PD Triathlon. There’s a part of me that wishes time would hurry up and there’s another part that wants time to slow down. I’ve been training for the last 7 months for this and though there’s always that fear of the unknown, I do know I’m having the time of my life and have never felt more satisfied and alive. Maybe I’ll just surprised myself on that day.
