Daily Log 20 April 2011

I wrote in yesterday’s Daily Log that I had a talk to give today. I’m happy to write that after an agonising night of thinking and thinking of what to say, I managed to deliver quite a good sharing. I did share about my journey in getting ship-shape to compete in a triathlon and some of the principles I use. When I first attended the Money And You Programme in 2004, I was introduced to a concept called ‘MASTERY’ which lays down the foundation and principles of personal growth. I reproduced the MASTERY write up below:

MASTERY in one’s career and consciousness growth simply requires that we constantly produce results beyond and out of the ordinary. Mastery is a product of consistently going beyond our limits. For most people, it starts with technical excellence in a chosen field and a commitment to that excellence. If you are willing to commit yourself to excellence, to surround yourself with things that represent this and miracles, your life will change. (When we speak of miracles, we speak of events or experiences in the real world, which are beyond the ordinary).

Having a bit of fun.

I spent the day doing catching up on some work as well as preparing for a workshop I’m holding next week. I’m a trainer and consultant in my ‘normal’ life and, I have to say, I do a pretty good job at it. I’ve training sessions for well over 2000 participants in the last 2 years and it’s nice to keep in touch with them. Lots of new programmes to design this year to fulfill a need that I see in terms of people and personal development.

My training for the triathlon has changed the way I conduct my training programmes. I have a greater understanding of how the mind works and I’ve developed ways to take advantage of that. Needless to say, the content of my programmes has also changed. I feel this year will be a good year for me in my work. I want to start conducting public programmes as well as the new programmes I mentioned earlier.

Tomorrow I’ve been asked to speak at an Instructor’s Training Programme (ITP) which is a train the trainer programme for the Money and You programme. Money and You is one of the training programmes I attended nearly 7 years ago which has had a tremendous impact on my life. To be asked to speak at the ITP is a great honour and a strong validation of the changes I’ve myself through.

Enuff said about that.

News and Newsmakers – Geoffrey Mutai at the Boston Marathon

When us novice runners were slogging on the Sepang International Curcuit during the Energizer Night Race on saturday, history was about to be created on the other side of the world at the world’s oldest marathon event, the Boston Marathon. Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai had just ran the fastest marathon recorded with a time of 2 …

The Energizer Night Race (ENR) had come and gone but the aftermath continues. Even with with statements made by both the Organiser (Expose) and the Title Sponsor (Energizer) the runners who participated are still not pacified. Who can blame them? If I were to run the marathon for the first time that night I would probably be more angry than I am at the moment. Energizer had issued a statement that all participants will get a full refund. That doesn’t really pacify me. I’d rather hear about how next year’s race will be different and better organised than this year’s. I have a strange feeling that the Energizer Night Race will be no more in Malaysia which is a shame. I hope it doesn’t turn out that way.

I also hope this doesn’t scare sponsors away from amateur sports in the country.

Race Report – Energizer Night Race 16 April 2011

At the finishing line…

The Energizer Night Race 2011 is touted as one the premier running event in Malaysia. It features a full 42.2 km marathon, a half marathon, an 11 km run and a 5.5 km fun run (yours truly had entered the fun run). What makes this race special is that it is held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), home of Malaysia’s Formula One race and that is enough to send people scrambling to enter. Well over ten thousand runners of all shapes and sizes had entered and the build up to the race is phenomenal. Everyone was talking about the Energizer Night Race (ENR) and after reading this Race Report, you will understand why everyone will continue to talk about it for years to come (though not for the reasons you might think).

Energizer Night Race

OK. Tomorrow is my 3rd race of the year- The Energizer Night Race 2011. The first was the FT Day 2011 7km Run followed by the 5km 2011 World Kidney Run, both in March. Both of these races started in the middle of KL at Dataran Merdeka. The Energizer Night Race is held at the Sepang International Circuit, the venue for Malaysia’s Formula 1 race. The track is exactly 5.5km long and the race I’ve entered is the single lap 5.5km fun run.

I am going to be racer Z1841 – REZA ALI.

Woo hoo and yee haa.

MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS I’ve discovered that a monster exists in me. This monster is silent and and unassuming. It appears when I least expect it. Lately it’s been appearing very often. This monster wants me to quit. Lately I’ve been noticing that my enthusiasm and motivation seems to be at a low. Don’t get me …

MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS Sometimes I wonder what kind of impact I have on people nowadays. Whenever I mention that I’ve lost 20+kg I get a lot of skeptical look and sometimes I have to whip out my iPhone or iPad to show my before and after pics. When they ask what do I do …
