Portraits- Liz Jasri

Meet Liz Jasri. I bumped into her (or actually she bumped into me) at Alexis, Great Eastern Mall. We got to talking over lunch and I found out that she and another friend of hers, Dura, is starting a child activity center called Doodlebug.

It’s a very interesting concept. Basically, parents can send their kids to Doodlebug during the day and have them join activities such as painting, dancing and gardening. Activities will be planned for the entire day all year round. You just look at the schedule of events and register your child for it. Very different from a day care center which I suppose is a place where people take care of your kids for the day. I’m thinking of how I can add photography to the list. How do you teach a bunch of 6 year olds about photography…

Anyway, do visit Doodlebug’s site. They should be in full operations by April. Can’t wait to see how the response is….

Well. I finally got a batch of Ilford Delta 100 (50 rolls to be precise) and am now trying to get the hang of it. I am still trying to get the best combination for developing purposes. Ilford ID-11 is great value for money but I’ve read that Ilford Perceptol gives better results in terms of grain and sharpness.

Sometimes the best portraits I have taken are the ones which had the least preparation, the least amount of thought and the least amount of expectations.

Reza Ali Photography – Portrait Portfolio

I love taking portraits of people. There’s nothing like that feeling you get when someone see a print of their portrait for the first time. The big smile, the sparkle in the eye. Whatever inhibition or shyness they have disappears when they see a beautiful portrait of themselves.

These are a selection of portraits I have taken. I have chosen portraits to show a variety of styles that I have pursued. Taking a picture is really easy but taking a portrait that shows the essence of a person requires more than technical knowledge. The most difficult (and on the other hand, the easiest) aspect I find is to get a connection with the person I am taking a portrait of. A portrait is not only an image of a person but is a reflection of who the person is.

Reza Ali is a photographer in Malaysia specialising in portrait photography.

Facing the Facebook 2009

In the last 6 months I have been inundated with emails from Facebook saying ‘so and so is on facebook and wants to connect with you’. Thus far, my only activity on Facebook is to approve requests from people to add friends. I was sort of resisting using the site as a protest against going with the crowd. ‘Everybody was using it so i won’t’ sort of thing.

Well today, I have decided to fully utilise the power of facebook. I actually went in to look for old school and uni friends and I have already found 2. Wow.

So 2009 will also be a year of reconnecting for me using facebook……..

Hello 2009

I woke up this morning and there is a freshness in the air. 2009 is finally here. I have been waiting for this day for quite awhile and now that it’s here, I can’t wait to get to work on some of the plans.

There is a lot of hopes and wishes. A lot of fears and and uncertainty too. I suppose they work hand in hand and you can’t take one without the other.

The first order of the day. Take pictures of this day.
